In the forty years since the Vietnam War major breakthroughs have been made in health care for physical, mental and spiritual well being. At the forefront has been acupressure/acupuncture - a science refined by the Chinese and other Eastern cultures to bring balance and harmony to our vital energy or chi. In just a few decades millions of Americans have either experienced directly or heard about acupressure. This has happened without massive advertising or government support but through word of mouth from one friend to another about its benefits for conditions as wide ranging as anxiety and stress, headaches, insomnia, back and neck pain, joint mobility, and immune system depletion.

Along with acupressure, the last forty years have seen major breakthroughs in other forms of health care such as Cranio/Sacral Therapy and the Alexander Technique that support healthy emotional and physical functioning. Expressive therapies such as art, music, writing and movement practices for the mind/body such as yoga, Tai Ji, and Chi Gong have all established strong health benefits for emotional and physical health.

These options for health simply were not available when our veterans returned from Vietnam and what was provided has proven grossly inadequate. As a result 1 out of 4 homeless are counted as veterans. Prisons, addiction centers and psychiatric wards are home to thousands of others. Suicide is the final, unspoken home.
