Frequently Asked Questions

Why is acupressure the primary modality?
Acupressure accesses the vital energy that underlies all major systems such as respiratory and digestive as well as individual organs. Acupoints are areas of high electrical conductivity on or near the surface of the skin and often align with major vascular and nerve centers. They provide a means to release restrictions and imbalances at the most fundamental levels. Releasing restrictions in the flow of energy assists the return to balance or homeostasis in the body/mind and assists work on specific dysfunctions.

How does acupressure help?
Acupressure directly affects the central nervous system and in particular the parasympathetic nervous system that is so important in dealing with stress and anxiety related conditions. Energy flows through every aspect of the body down to the tiniest cell. By assisting a balanced flow of energy throughout the body, acupressure helps a wide range of physical and emotional conditions.

What conditions does acupressure help?
Acupressure can directly assist healing the following conditions but is not a repacement for medical treatment.

Neck and back pain
Headaches
Digestive problems
Constipation/ Diarrhea
Hemorrhoids
Immune problems
Colds and Flu
Hypertension
Arthritis
Joint pain

What is an acupressure session like?
An acupressure session is half an hour to an hour in length and can be done on a massage table, chair or even standing. The client wears comfortable clothing and may be additionally covered with a light blanket for warmth. The practitioner uses a clear, non-invasive, pain free touch. Most clients relax deeply during a session and often move into a calm and quiet emotional state. It is in this state of balance that healing takes place. Often physical and emotional issues are linked and the clearing of energy in the body enables mental and emotional clearing as well. Although the focus of WCV is on physical conditions, experience consistently shows there is a corresponding improvement in emotional and spiritual health as well.
